The American R&B superstar, Toni Braxton has decided to stay off Twitter. She said the platform is no longer a safe space for her, her sons and other POC.
Her decision came hours after the new CEO of Twitter, Elon Reeve Musk tweeted about the company’s plans of forming a content moderation council with widely diverse viewpoints, and until the formation of the moderation council, no major content decisions or account reinstatement will happen. Musk added that “Comedy is now legal.”
It is not clear if the company’s latest plans triggered Toni Braxton’s decision. The American singer however took to her Twitter handle to express her shock over the rate of “hate speech” rife on the platform ever since its latest acquisition.
In her words; “I’m shocked and appalled at some of the “free speech” I’ve seen on this platform since its acquisition. Hate speech under the veil of “free speech” is unacceptable; therefore I am choosing to stay off Twitter as it is no longer a safe space for myself, my sons and other POC.”
